For just £10/month you can give a
HIV/AIDS orphan a better life ..

HandinHand - we can make a difference

HandinHand is a UK-based organisation that helps HIV/AIDS orphans in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We support and enable AfGAO (Association of Growth for Aids Orphans) based in Addis Ababa directly. As an organisation we search for sponsors for each of the affected children.

Regular contributions from sponsors enable AfGAO to provide an education, one meal every weekday, clothing and health needs to these children. Currently HandinHand has 125 sponsored children. In the project area, Kebele 04/06, there are about 700 needy children being brought up in extreme poverty. All they know is the slums of Addis Ababa.

AfGAO

AfGAO is the project in Addis Ababa founded and run by Tesfahaun Dedena. Tesfahaun was also an orphan in the slums of Addis Ababa. He was helped by another project operating in another area of the city. His life changed drastically after they found him a sponsor who cared for him financially. He was able to attend school and have a better future. Tesfahaun also came to faith in Jesus Christ and he cannot stop talking about how great God is to him.

Nothing is too much work for Tesfahaun, heíll do anything to help the orphans. Tesfahaun founded the project in 2006 and has a very good team supporting his work already. Tesfahaun and his team currently receive salaries from Cornerstone Community Church in Flitwick.

The core team consists of Tesfahaun (manager), Yonas (communicator) and Getenet ('care bear'). The names in brackets have been given to them by us during our visits, watching how they relate to the children. The children adore them

The Food Programme

We are very proud of the food programme in the HandinHand project. Since May/June last year 150 orphans are receiving one well-balanced meal every weekday.

Four women in the community are preparing and serving the food each day.
These women are the mothers of the project and their loving care of the orphans is a necessity.

Two of the womenís salaries are
sponsored by The Joseph's Experience

How can you help...

There are 3 ways to help the children in the HandinHand project:

1. Sponsor a child for £10/month.
Your sponsorship will provide the child with an education, stationery, one good meal every weekday, clothes and healthcare if he/she needs it.* We would encourage you to keep contact with your child by sending cards and small gifts. You can expect letters and drawings from your child.

2. You can give a donation towards the administration costs needed to run an organisation like this.

3. Sponsor a worker on the project.
The faster the project grows the more workers are needed to look after the orphans. Their salaries are very important because these people also need money for their everyday needs.
Sponsorship for a worker varies between £20 and £55/month. We would also encourage you to keep contact with the worker and encourage and applaud them for the good work they are doing. They work very hard in awful circumstances.

*It is important to know that your £10 sponsorship will only be spent on the orphans and not on any administration costs. No fancy four-wheel drives!
Businesses can make a corporate tax deduction for donations and Gift Aid can be used to deduct from tax by self-employed people.

Would you like to visit your orphan?

Yes! We arrange once-yearly trips to Addis Ababa and the project so that you can see it in action, meet the people involved and spend time with your orphan. It is a challenge but it will change your life forever. Please let us know if you are interested.
